Brea Water Division under Public Works is responsible for the water supply to the residents of Brea. It is also responsible for preventing water backflow and supplying potable water to the city's inhabitants. The water department obtains its water from the State Water Project, the Colorado River, and surface water that the Metropolitan Water District imports.

The EWG, however, found 16 contaminants in the city's water that are hazardous to the residents' health and well-being in a water assessment conducted in 2019. They found residues of bromoform, chloroform, hexavalent chromium, lead and other metals, radioactive chemicals, and petroleum wastes that could cause immediate and long-term diseases and health implications to the residents.
